Maybe instead of asking "give of faith and joy and not guilt and duty" talk about it more often. It seems the only time this surfaces is when we are having financial concerns.
We are all adults and understand the importance of paying bills and personal growth. Maybe break off of the routine sermon schedule once in a while and talk about the importance of giving, not only from a financial situation, but from a personal one.
Challenge the congregation to increase their givings by just $1 per week. So for those not giving now, a $1 seems like nothing. Hopefully this could lead to future increases in givings as those just starting out see that the money wasn't missed.
If the church is under financial constraints, why was the unused loan money pushed on the congregation to spend it versus give back to the mortage company to reduce our loan? I am not willing to contribute any more money than I already do and do not like being asked all the time.
